It's a huge asset to have in your network a "first response team." Here's what I mean:
I am working with a fabulous team on the title and cover copy for my new book. Settling on a title has been no problem, but the subtitle is another story. We've gone back and forth over a number of possibilities. Finally, Graham Van Dixhorn (of Write to Your Market) suggested that I ask my Twitter Peeps what they thought. I had a better idea, I would ask my "first response team" - our Leading Women members. They are exactly the women I had in mind when I wrote the book. They'd be the perfect people to ask for feedback.
So, out went an email request. Fast forward through the great services of Survey Monkey. The response has been outstanding. Not only is there a clear preference, but new options with great potential were offered.
What does this have to do with networking? Just as women are advised to form a personal board of advisors, I suggest that you have a "first response team" as part of your network. These are people whose opinions you value, and who you'd want to tap for quick input on decisions with fixed parameters. For me, when I need input on my business, my first response team is comprised of the brilliant, career-oriented women who participate in Leading Women.
Who's in yours?
PS I'd love to have you weigh in on the subtitle. Let me know what you think: here.
I'm going to be horsecamping in Yellowstone next week and enjoying life-disconnected. Happy Independence Day, all!
Network ON!
